Wellness Department Reinvention

Barrows was approached by Shoprite, on behalf of Unilever, to develop a strategic wellness department reinvention in a flagship store, that integrates all personal care, health and beauty categories with the pharmacy and dietician. The design apporach had to strike a balance between being respectful to the heritage of the retailer and the local community and creating an inviting, engaging wellness department experience for the shopper. The end result was an immediate 15% uplift in sales throughout the department overall, and 25% specifically within the mens grooming section. A subsequent set of guidelines were created and there are now plans for the model to be rolled-out chain-wide.
